iwjf launches the(# Education_Right) campaign to support female students in performing online exams

The Iraqi Women Journalists Forum adopted a media campaign with hashtag (#education_right), after the recording of Sawtuha network for Women Human Rights Defenders several complaints by university female students from various governorates in the matter of preventing them from performing online exams.

The complaints submitted to the network included the university examinations mechanism, which requires online camera and that led to depriving some female students of taking the exam because of the refusal of the father or husband to use online camera during the exam, considering that it is contrary to customs and traditions.

In this regard, sawtuha network expressed its rejection against gender-based violence, which will result in depriving many girls of education, in addition to what will result from the psychological aspect, which is one of the most dangerous types of violence faced by women.

The violence experienced by female students and their exclusion from education needs everyone to reject all violent practices that increased dramatically during the Corona pandemic, which required the issuance of exceptional decisions, including the decisions of online exams.

Sawtuha network demanded that the Ministry of Higher Education, the Women’s Empowerment Department, the Parliamentary Women’s Committee, and the Commission for Human Rights should have a serious stance to reduce the violence experienced by female students by families at this critical stage, and to support female students through the issuance of data, procedures and decisions enabling them to continue education, in addition to allowing students who are unable to open online camera by suggesting alternatives for electronic monitoring.
