Training workshop on the professional and digital safety of female journalists

With the support of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the IWJF held a training workshop on “Professional and Digital Safety of Female Journalists” for the period of October 18-20, with the participation of 20 trainees from different cities.

The workshop was opened by the President of the Forum, Dr. Nibras Al-Maamouri, and introduced the project and training workshops which will be in three stages in addition to the legal clinic and its role in providing legal consultation free of charge to women journalists and human rights defenders.

The workshop, which was also conducted by the trainer Lamyaa Al-Ameri, included the explanation of the concept of the digital world and the method of preserving information and data and an introduction to personal safety in the professional work of women journalists and human rights defenders and the contents of personal safety in the professional work of women journalists and defenders, in addition to ways of risk assessment, and the role of the media or organizations in risk assessment. The training also included training on security of computers and digital storage devices, security problems associated with the Internet and some digital safety measures.

The last day of the workshop included an action plan to protect female human rights defenders and journalists in Iraq and the role of the judiciary system in the protection and freedom of media and expression and ways of designing a campaign to defend the rights of journalists and human rights defenders.

The workshop was concluded by giving out certificates of participation to female trainees who expressed their thanks to the organizing and sponsor of the activity. They emphasized the importance of training and the benefits that have resulted from the digital protection.
